GENERAL INFORMATION
The 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae will be held online from the 4th and the 7th of July 2022. The symposium will be organized through sessions focusing on different topics such as systematics, ecology, biomonitoring or recent advances in the molecular biology of Chironomidae. Updates concerning the organization of the symposium will be posted in the announcements section below.
WELCOME!
The International Symposium on Chironomidae has been gathering for 58 years passionate researchers working on this rich family of insects largely underconsidered, in spite of its diversity, ecological importance and proximity to us.
The last edition of this triennial Symposium was held in Trento (Italy) in 2017 and the next International Symposium on Chironomidae was planned to welcome the Chironomidae researcher community in Tsukuba (Japan) in 2021. However, COVID-19 pandemic postponed the symposium to 2022 with hope for a meeting in person. Unfortunately, the pandemic was not stamped out and Japan closed its borders again. For this reason, we were forced to take the difficult decision to organize the 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae (ISC2022) online to gather a majority of the Chironomidae researcher community and share advances in their work during the last 5 years.
This is the first attempt to organize the symposium online and we will try to make it as convivial as possible and yield scientific exchanges close to a physical meeting. The big challenge will be the taxonomy workshop, but we will try to make it as interactive as possible.
Looking forward to meeting you this summer at the 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae.

We believe that this system will be more comfortable for participants all around the world.
16/05/2022 The symposium proceedings are expected to be published in the CHIRONOMUS Journal of Chironomidae Research.
04/04/2022 Update of the Scientific Committee.
07/03/2022 21st International Symposium on Chironomidae (ISC2022) homepage opened to the public.
